NANS tasks FG on stable power supply

Published by Tribune on Mon, 09 May 2011

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to ensureconstant electricity supply across the nation so as to enhance rapid economic development and growth and attract foreign investors to invest and operate in the country.President of NANS, Mr Bassey Etuk Williams and the Secretary General, Mr Jossy Ekpe, in a communiqué jointly signed and made available to journalists, noted that this was part of the agenda setting role of the association.NANS expressed satisfaction with the manner President Goodluck Jonathan had been managing the power sector. The association also said it was confident with the way Professor Barth Nnaji and other handlers of the Power Sector reform project were carrying out the assignment. The association disclosed its resolve to hold a First All Nigerian Students Operation 20,000 Mega Watts Realisation Conference in Abuja, between June 7 and 9, 2011, stating thatthe programme would afford the government the best medium to educate millions ofNigerian students on the way forward in power with a view to enhancing national development with great efficiency. The students union body, which juxtaposed performance of Nigerias power sector with other countries around the world, posited that the Federal Government must not rest on its oars until the goal of actualising stable and constant electricity supply was achieved in all parts of the country.NANS said: The rationale for our present hopeful stance is that there are visible changes in the manner things are done in the power sector since the emergence of this administration. Besides, there are verifiable projects and infrastructural development in the sector.
