Driver hits woman while escaping from FRSC

TEARS flowed freelyFriday morningfrom sympathisers, some of whom were commuters, when a commercial bus overloaded with cartons which content could not be immediately known, rammed into a pack of tyres on Challenge road at a point close to Yinka Ayefeles Music House, seriously injuring a lady waiting to cross the highway.An anonymous eye witness, who had a shop close to the spot of the incident, explained to Community News that the driver of the bus who was coming from Lagos, lost the control of the vehicle in his attempt to escape from the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps who chased him with their vehicle to the spot.As the driver skidded off the main road possibly to avoid hitting the FRSC car that had already overtaken him, he lost control and rammed into a woman that was waiting to cross to the other side of the road.  On discovery that he had possibly killed a woman, the driver, jumped out of the bus and ran away, he explained.Surprisingly, according to another young boy of about 15 who simply identified himself as Bello and who claimed to have left the spot about five minutes before the incident, the Road Safety officials ran away without even waiting to find out what happened.Its like they were afraid that they could be mobbed because of the woman who was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, he said.When Community News  visited the spot of the incident, some of the sympathisers met at the spot could not immediately identify the exact hospital the victim of the accident was taken to.  But at the spot was the heavily damaged bus with all the luggage intact.Reacting to the incident, another eye witness, Risikatu Saliu who said she was in front of Ayefeles Music House when the accident occurred, lambasted the Road Safety officials saying that they have no value for life.According to her, they should have taken the registration number of the bus and carefully trace it to its destination rather than the crude method  they applied which they knew could be injurious, not only to the driver of the bus, but other road users.She said that the officials should be fished out to account for their misdeed while others like them should be warned from killing those they are paid to protect.
