Road maintenance: Aba Efun, Aba Igbira communities laud Afe Babalola

Published by Tribune on Mon, 09 May 2011

Residents of AbaEfun and AbaIgbira communities in Ado Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State have commended the proprietor of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), for embarking on the rehabilitation of bad portions of the Polytechnic Road in the area.Community News observed that the really bad portions had been filled and made more passable for vehicles at Aba Efun and Aba Igbira by the management of ABUAD following the university managements decision to do something about the dilapidated road up to the university. Some residents of the communities which the road passes through told Community News that the road was gradually becoming desolate if not for ABUAD and the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, institutions which the road also serves.According to Mr. Olawale Adeshola, the road links Ado Ekiti and Gboyin Local Government areas on one hand and up to Ikole and other towns in the Northern part of the state on the other. But as busy as it should be, commercial vehicles have almost abandoned the road.Adeshola lamented that this development is worrisome and I think the relevant government agency, especially the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) should hurry to the road in the interest of the people of Ekiti State. While thanking Aare Babalola (SAN) for taking the bull by the horns on the road, he charged the state government to put machinery in motion to bring the Federal Governments attention to the deplorable condition of the road with a view to bringing them to repair it.Also speaking with Community News, Miss Tayo Owolabi, said the farmers coming from the area had increased the prices of farm produce because they say they now pay more to transport the produce to the township. She said we should even thank ABUAD for the effort at making the road accessible.
