Church inaugurates skills acquisition centere

Published by Tribune on Mon, 13 Aug 2012

In contributing its quota to the transformational agenda of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, the Abraham's Tabernacle, Sagamu, Ogun State, has established a skill acquisition centre to train the unemployed on various skills so as to make them self employed and reliant. The centre was established to train youths, women and other participants in computer, fashion designing, shoe making, baking, chemical effects, decoration, painting, tiling and art, among others. The General Secretary, Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Rev. Yusuf Ibrahim Wushishi, at the inauguration of the skill centre held recently, urged churches and faith-based organizations to complement the government efforts in addressing unemployment and poverty in the country.Wushishi said the initiative as a holistic approach would assist in impacting the lives of people and stemming the tide of insecurity in the country. His words: 'The centre is timely and will have very positive impact in the lives of the participants. It is to teach people how to fish so that they can fend for themselves and depend on their own skills to sustain themselves and also help them not to engage in activities that could breach the peace of the country.'I see this centre as a response to the President Goodluck Jonathan's transformation agenda because it will have positive effect in terms of reducing the rate of poverty in the country. Those people that would be trained will have something to do and whatever they do is contributing to the economy of the country. We will have improvement with our security, economy and even the religious belief.'Spirituality is never complete with an empty stomach. When somebody is hungry, how does he understand the love of God you are talking of'So, it has a positive impact, not only to the youth and trainees, but to the society, environment and the church.'The Resident Pastor of the Church, Rev. Dele Kolade, stated that youths remained the main target of the centre, adding that the participants would be trained to become self-employed and self-reliant.
