CITN hinges economic growth on improved tax system

THE President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Prince Rasaq Quadri has said that an improved Nigeria tax system will drive the economy out of the woods.Speaking at the 24th induction ceremony recently in Lagos, he explained that, it is no longer news that what is required to drive our economy out of the woods is diversification, with emphasis on taxation.According to him, an improved operational efficiency of the Nigerias tax system will accelerate governments efforts as it leverages on taxation as the engine-room for sustainable development.The programmes were key to the realisation of the statutory responsibilities of the institute as a professional body. We need to be part of the soldiers of conscience to fight the menace of corruption that has eaten deep into fabrics of our nation at all levels.He noted that the institut  was determined more than ever to collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the manpower capacity of the tax system, through training and re-orientation of workforce in various agencies.He stresse   the need for cooperation between the governments and the institute in tax policy formulation and implementation, adding that it would go a long way to improve the effectiveness of their revenue agencies, while at the same time strengthen the confidence of taxpayers in Nigerias tax system.He urged members to  protect themsselves from whirlwind of corruption by the  of integrity and professional that had been the symbol  of the institute since creation.
