FORMER champion, Enyimba of Aba, yesterday qualified for the group stage of the CAF Champions League after beating Al Ittihad of Libya by a lone goal. The game played at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba, was heading to a stalemate in the second half when Victor Barnabas scored the decider through a penalty to give the Peoples Elephant the ticket to the lucrative group stage.CAF ordered the game to be decided by the one leg in Aba following the political crisis that has made Libya incapable of hosting the return leg.Meanwhile, crowd trouble forced the tie between Club Africain of Tunisia and Al-Hilal of Sudan in Rades to be called off by CAF officials.Spectators invaded the national stadium pitch on the outskirts of capital, Tunis, with a few minutes left of the third round game and Club Africain needing two goals to avoid elimination.Tunisian reports said there was also violence in the stands while Hilal players and coaches sought shelter and it seems likely that CAF will disqualify Club Africain. The Tunisian club was also involved in an abandoned game last month when Zamalek supporters stormed on to the Cairo Stadium field after a goal was ruled offside and the Egyptians were later kicked out of the competition.Hilal won the first leg 1-0 in Omdurman two weeks ago and doubled their aggregate advantage 18 minutes into the first half through Zimbabwe-born striker Edward Sadomba.Khaled Melliti levelled midway through the second half, but the home side needed to net twice more under the away-goal rule to survive when play was halted. Former champions Mouloudia Alger of Algeria and Raja Casablanca of Morocco qualified for the lucrative group stage with dramatic home victories.Brahim Bedbouda converted an 88th-minute penalty to give 1976 title holders Mouloudia a 3-2 victory over Angolan police team InterClube in Algiers after a drawn first encounter.A seesaw struggle saw Youssef Sofiane and Abdelmalek Mokdad give the local team the lead twice and captain Pedro Henriques and Antonio equalise for the gallant visitors who trailed 2-1 at halftime. The odds favoured three-time champions Raja against ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast as the security situation in the west African country meant the tie was reduced to a single match in Morocco.A young ASEC team snatched an early second half lead through Adama Bakayoko, which they clung to until the final minute when Mohsine Moutouali converted a penalty and forced a shootout won 5-4 by the home side.
