Sallah: Security operatives bar use of Rukuba praying ground in Jos

AS part of plans by security operatives in Plateau State to ensure hitch free sallah celebration, the state police command and Special Task Force have declared that payers will not be allowed in controversial Rukuba road prayer ground.It will be recalled that no fewer than 50 people were killed at the prayer ground in 2011, following a misunderstanding between the natives and the Hausa/Fulani Muslims on the use of the praying ground.Addressing a meeting of religious and other stakeholders in the state on Monday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ayeni, said the directive became necessary to consolidate on the prevailing peace within the state capital.'We want both the Christians and Muslims to have a peaceful celebration and fraternise together. But the Muslims must shelf the idea of using the praying ground at Rukuba road to avoid bloodshed, negative publicity and mayhem,' he said.According to him, the praying ground was subject of litigation, adding that 'we are not imposing our opinion on anybody, but the decision is to promote peace and harmonious relationship among the people of the state.'In his contribution, the deputy commandant, Special Task Force, Umar Minringa, said negotiation was ongoing with state government to provide alternative prayer ground, adding that it was not compulsory for anybody to observe sallah prayer at Rukuba road.
