JTF assures Damaturu residents of safety

FOLLOWING clash between members of the Boko Haram sect and military Joint Task Force (JTF) in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, on Sunday, the JTF has called on Damaturu residents not to 'panic and flee,' as officers and men of the task force will continue to take necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of law abiding citizens in the state.In a statement signed by its commander, Colonel Dahiru Abdulsalam and made available to newsmen in Damaturu, on Monday, JTF said it noted that residents of Damaturu had fled as a result of rumours and speculations relating to planned terror attacks.'The JTF is primarily concerned with maintaining law and order, ensuring peace and security and protecting the lives and properties of the people,' the statement read.Colonel Abdulsalam, therefore, urged residents of the state capital not to panic or leave town as a result of rumours, while he assured that Damaturu would not become a den for terrorists.'The JTF calls on members of the public to cooperate and be patient, as efforts are stepped up to maintain security.'The JTF calls on people to continue with their normal daily activities and to assist with any relevant information which may assistin improving the security situation, through the dedicated telephone numbers already provided.
