Installation of Alara was in order, say kingmakers

Published by Tribune on Wed, 15 Aug 2012

Kingmakers to the Alara of Aramoko Chieftaincy in Ekiti State, have declared that due process was followed in the installation of the incumbent traditional ruler of the town, Oba Adegoke Olu-Adeyemi, the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, three years ago. They have, however, dissociated themselves from one Eyejumu, who was recently quoted as saying that Oba Adeyemi was wrongly chosen. In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Alara-In-Council, who is also the High Chief Sajowa of Aramoko Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti West Local Government, the kingmakers condemned the report in the media, credited to Chief Eyejumu, who claimed that Oba Adeyemi's ascension to the throne was fraught with irregularities. The statement was issued after a meeting of the kingmakers in reaction to the said publication credited to Chief Eyejumu in the media. Eyejumu had alleged in the newspaper stories that Oba Adeyemi, who ascended the throne following the demise of Oba Oluwole Amele, Counsellor Balogun of the rested The New Village Headmaster Television Series, was not the choice of the Ifa Oracle .The kingmakers rejected the report in absolute term and stated that it was not only ridiculous to the community but a false and irresponsible statement meant to malign the royal institution of Aramoko Kingdom. It stated further that the name of Prince Segun Aderemi, who was referred to in the story as the person favoured by the oracle was never selected. The 13 Kingmakers stated without equivocation that; 'Prince Segun Aderemi was never picked by the Ifa Oracle nor was he popularly elected as Alara of Aramoko in the election that produced Oba Adeyemi. The Kingmakers followed due process in the entire selection exercise that was conducted openly and reported in both print and electronic media. The video clip is available and in circulation,' 'As educated and informed individuals, we, the kingmakers to the Alara of Aramoko Chieftaincy are sufficiently educated and informed to see the need to avoid doing anything that will amount to impugning the integrity of the court on a matter which is 'subjudice'.In another development, the leadership of Aramoko Development Association (ADA), an umbrella body of all the indigenes of the town, has also reacted to the publication and said that Eyejumu made the statement to embarrass the community, at a time all the stakeholders thought everything had been settled about the position of Alara.According to ADA President, Chief Adeosun Oni, the process of selecting the current Alara was transparent and in accordance with the declaration contained in the Morgan Commission of Enquiry on Chieftaincy matters in the old Ondo State, which indicated that the selection of a suitable candidate to the throne must be done by consultation of the Ifa Oracle, which should be followed by election of the new Oba by the kingmakers if there are more than one candidate.
