The No. 24ranked player and former world No. 1 had a rough start to her 2016 season, losing to unseededYulia Putintseva in the opening round of the Australian Open. She's 8-7 on the year, and has struggled to find any momentum at all.Wozniacki ran into some injury troubles last season, including back issues right before Wimbledon and a calf problem during the Rogers Cup.However, Wozniacki feuded with the WTA while nursing the calf injury, saying that they "forced" her to play in a second-round match that she wound up losing to Belinda Bencic, as reported bySam Williams of theSporting News:The rules are if you're a top-10 player, that this was my commitment tournament, you're forced to play.If you don't, you get huge money fines. You get zero points to your ranking ... which is crazy. The WTA is all about: 'We want the players healthy, we want them to play at their best level at every tournament and we want to make it tough for them.'That's good, but the fact that they're pushing you to play whenever, if you are not feeling 100 percent, is not OK.How this injury is handled with Wozniacki and if she'll be given ample time to heal will be storylines going forward worth monitoring. Unfortunately for tennis fans, it looks like they'll be without one of the top players on the tour for a considerable amount of time.Stats courtesy of WTATennis.com
