Gov Bello Revokes Land Allocations Around Zuma Rock

The Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has finally laid to rest the controversy surrounding the allocation of lands around Zuma Rock, as he approved the revocation of all allocations of land around the rock located in Tafa local government area of Niger State.A statement by the state commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, stated that the approval was sequel to a memo to the governor in March this year by the state commissioner for Lands and Housing, Alhaji Haliru Zakari Jikantoro.According to Vatsa in the statement yesterday in Minna, the governor gave the approval in exercising the powers conferred on him in consonance with the provisions of section 28, sub-section 2 (b) of the Land Use Act of 1978 .He stated that the commissioner of Land had explained in the memo that led to the revocation that the governors action was based on the strategic location of the area, the need to preserve the natural endowment for collective benefits and above all in the overriding public interest.According to the statement seven beneficiaries with a total of 248 hectares of land were affected were affected by the revocation, and they are Aso Savings and Loans Plc NG/SL/933, 54.780H; Aso Savings and Loans Plc NG/SL/909, 95.220H; Minna Economic Regeneration Services NG/SL/908, 50H; Shelter Plus Nigeria Limited NG/SL/978, 35H; Grand Towers Plc, 10H; U.A.I.A. Nigeria Limited NG/SL/982 and Umaru Bature NG/SL/993, 3H.The statement stated that based on the memo the Commissioner of Land Alhaji Haliru Zakari Jikantoro directed all affected beneficiaries to return the grant or Certificates of Occupancy in their possession and settle amount outstanding within three months from the date of the revocation.He however, stated that beneficiaries with proof of un-exhausted improvement on their revoked plots may be entitled to compensation or alternative allocation of plot where appropriate.Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Culture, Mr Jonathan Tsado Vatsa has warned those engaged in commercial activities such as the local crushers and quarrying of granite behind the famous Zuma Rock to stop forthwith or face the wrath of the law pointing out that such parcels of land belong to his Ministry.The post Gov Bello Revokes Land Allocations Around Zuma Rock appeared first on Nigerian News from Leadership News.
