Oben gas plant shut for upgrade

OWNERS of Oben gas plant, SEPLAT Petroleum Development Company Limited, have closed down the facility for an upgrade to boost gas supply and extend the life of the facility by another 20 years.The firm, which operates the National Petroleum Development Company Limited (NPDC/SEPLAT) joint venture (JV) blocks, Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 4, 38 and 41, said the exercise was also designed to achieve the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) specification.Its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Austin Avuru, said the shutdown operation, which started last Monday, would be in two phases.He explained that the first phase would run for seven days during the first period of the upgrade, with the gas plant would operate at 50 per cent of installed capacity, while the second phase would be a total shutdown for another seven days.According to him, during the period of the shutdown, a new control room would be hooked up and pre-fabricated meter run (with DOF on the sales gas line), valves and vortex flow meters amongst other equipment would be installed.
