Durant Turns in Historically Poor Shooting Performance

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 19 Apr 2016

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant was shockingly ineffective during Monday's 85-84 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals, setting a modern NBA playoff record for the worst field-goal percentage (21.2) in a performance that included 30 or more field-goal attempts, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).Durant made just seven of his 33 shots from the field, including just two out of 11 from three-point range, though he did at least manage to sink all five of his free throws.Further adding to his woes, the 27-year-old superstar had seven turnovers in a game-high 44 minutes, and he only contributed nine rebounds, two assists and one block for the rest of his stat line.It may have been the worst performance of Durant's entire careerregular season or playoffsas he'd never before shot worse than 25 percent from the field while attempting 30 or more field goals, per Basketball-Reference.com's play index.Somehow, the Thunder still came within milliseconds of taking a 2-0 lead in the series, with center Steven Adams sinking what would have been a game-winning shot if not for the fact it came right after the buzzer. In any case, Durant can at least take some solace in having good company, as the previous record for worst field-goal percentage in a playoff performance featuring 30 or more shot attempts was held by none other than Michael Jordan (25.7 percent in a 1997 game).
