ZMIRAGE: 'Olympicism' runs

Published by Guardian on Tue, 21 Aug 2012

THE clickety clack of the runs started few months ago in the stables of Zmirage Multimedia Ltd. at 285, Ikorodu road, Idiroko bus stop Maryland Lagos; the line of events that will rent the air in few months to follow. All hands were then not only on deck, but on the real work to be done to bring our effort as a corporate entity to fruition.Among the events to be worked on were: Total renovation of the June 12 Cultural Centre, Yoruba Movie Academy Awards project, Edo decides set and DAAR Communication Studio work, Celebrity Basketball Face-Off, Wole Soyinka @78: open door series and Olympic Cultural plays in United Kingdom. The renovation done by Zmirage multimedia Ltd. according to the Guardian Newspaper (Sat. 7 July, 2012) indeed ''gave the workers and cultural enthusiasts in Abeokuta, Ogun state reasons to smile as the once dilapidated June 12 Cultural Centre, now wears a new look following the extensive renovation work''.The general upgrade didn't leave behind the theatre hall, toilets and offices which were just mere edifice of past glory; but refurbished and equipped with modern gadgets which gave the entire structure the new look it deserves. The face-lift executed include the ultra-modern gate that bids one welcome as one enters the new edifice, professional station for artistic structures depicting the various fields of engagement where the people of Ogun state have excelled, swimming pool, funfair arena, children's playing ground, amusement park, local caf which were all built and decorated with local accessories.Others are poolside bars, wooden sofa for relaxation, water fountain, party arena for mini social events, the Hubert Ogunde hall renovation with upgrades such as Standard Lighting System, permanent projectors for film shows and PowerPoint presentations, fully functioning air-conditioning facility, several LCD television sets put at strategic places and the seats which were outdated were replaced. The Cultural Centre can now be rated among the very best in the nation with ultra-modern facilities to host events of international standard. One such event which graced the newly opened Center was the first ever Yoruba Movie Academy Awards, a brain child of Laface Inc. in collaboration with Zmirage Multimedia Ltd. which will be talked about later. The speed at which all these aforementioned turn around was carried out (two months) consolidates the company's policy as a corporate entity and a pioneer in providing technical services where required at an undelayed pace.Simultaneously, while the renovation at Cultural Centre was on, Zmirage multimedia Ltd. in the yearly glamorous celebrity basketball event 'Face Off' organized by Play Centre on 15th April, 2012, was hands on to grace the show with exotic lighting, seamless sound, trussing and red carpet session at Harbour Point, Vitoria Island. This is another mind blowing and ground breaking event of Olympic feat which was technically championed by Zmirage Multimedia Ltd.Simultaneously, Zmirage was in Edo State to construct an international Standard newsroom/breakfast show set for the new African Independent Television station show for the debut broadcast which took place on the 4th May 2012. The executive governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole was interviewed on the brand new set right after he commissioned it. The MD of DAAR Communication, High Chief Dr. Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi was so pleased with our work that he could not help exclaiming that he loved the studio set we created and this was evidenced in ten folds of such job Zmirage was later to do for DAAR Communication at different locations of Nigeria which includes Plateau and Borno state.Back to back, Zmirage Multimedia Ltd. was at Edo state for Edo decides. Look at the technical input of that electioneering process in our dear country Nigeria, isn't it magnificent' Indeed a technological engagement that can only be likened with Olympic feat with all the technical component raging from the set design and building, lighting, sound and PA system for the event, trussing and the multimedia and which did not in any way stand in the way of the form but rather became part of the event. In the month of July came our open door series event. Meanwhile, the Olympic Cultural plays which Zmirage championed the technical input was on the verge of performance in UK and we have our Open Door Series Project (the Mind of a Patriot) with an accompanying stage play to be taken to three states apart from Lagos and UK for performance as part of Zmirage yearly exchange programme that is used to commemorate Wole Soyinka birthday. The indomitable race then began in Lagos: the building of 'Home' and other preparations, the traveling of our crew scheduled for Olympic Cultural plays in United Kingdom and due to our unflinching capability as already seen in the artistic dexterity display in AIT studio built in Edo state. DAAR Communications gave us ten studios to build across 10 Nigerian states, all of this happening at the same TIME!Zmirage can't afford to fail, so we gave in our best and our best became such you can find anywhere in the world. The crew in Lagos for Olympic production left Nigerian soil in the first week of July with the cast member since we have whole lots of project to manage; we had to make do with the personnel on ground judiciously. Sam Oluwatosin (a Dramatic Arts graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University) and Godwin Emefe (a theatre arts graduate from University of Ibadan) left with the cast to meet Mr. Teju Kareem (MD and Chief Technical Director for all the projects), who had being in UK to prepare the ground our events there with our other partners like Shabaka Thompson who is Director of Zmirage UK and ZMC, Lekan Olujnimi on WS78 project and Mr. Ola and Mr. Femi. And as the Olympic cultural play crew arrived in London, Teju Kareem left London for Nigeria to come put house in order.Yekini Sherif Abiodun (a graduate of Dramatic Arts, OAU) was on top f WS78 play project until later joined by the MD for Lagos performance of Red carpet session set up and the play set up. Sherif Yekini meanwhile worked alongside Akapo Samson (a graduate of Theatre Arts, from University of Ibadan) while Olaitan Titiloye (the creative director, who is a graduate of Engineering from University of Bauchi) and Yemi Bello (a graduate of Fine Arts, OAU and M Sc. Architecture, UI) were on the AIT studios across the country. All of these happening at the same time is an incredible phenomena so Mr. Teju Kareem, being the Technical Director of all has to be everywhere at the same time either by movement or by phone.WS78 in NigeriaThe sheer participation across the country despite the challenges of insecurity shows that the event is a huge success. And for the sponsors of the programme, they ended up getting more than they actually bargained for. Ogun and Ondo State government had their names well captured in over 50 articles in newspapers and Magazines generated over three months of the publicity both in Nigeria and London. The big banners hoisted in Lagos and Ogun State about a week before the programme and other media jingles that ran on TV and radios in Nigeria and London is a plus for them. Also the play 'Home' performed at the University of Ibadan on which flyers the names of the sponsors and partners were boldly written despite the fact that it was not originally part of the programme and the reception of the plays at the University is a double plus for all the affiliates. The play productions were 13th July 2012 at Agip Hall of Muson Centre Lagos, 15th July at Adegbemile Hall at Ondo State and finally Art theatre Hall of University of Ibadan on 24th July 2012 where the performances ended and highly appreciated before leaving the African shore. The AIT studio set crews were already at Kano state, Abuja and Plateau state before the WS78 crew left the African shore for United Kingdom. Meanwhile all hands were already in work at G-Live, United Kingdom for the performance of The King Must Dance Naked, while the crew moved to The Africa Centre, King Street, Covent Garden; London, for the final phase of WS78 on 28th and 29th of July 2012. And later to the Nigeria House at Theatre Royal Stratford East, London for the Olympic cultural plays.
