Light House Cinemas to enliven Warri's Leisure Scene

Published by Tribune on Wed, 22 Aug 2012

LOCATED within an expansive complex on Delta Steel Complex Expressway, Effurun, Warri, Light House Cinemas is an architectural masterpiece that has two large size edifices, a hotel and conference centre, a must see edifice for visitors.Besides, being the first of its kind in the city of Warri, which is famous for its vast oil wealth and socio'cultural elements, which over the years bequeath on the city a unique character and following, Light House Cinemas is coming on the scene with outstanding entertainment products and offerings.Coming at a time when Warri, which used to rate high on the nation's entertainment scene is now a shadow of it old self with entertainment, particularly night life on the zero level mostly due to security concerns and abandonment of the city, the promoters of the new leisure outfit are poised to rekindle the social life of the city and make Warri once again the hotbed of entertainment.Modelled after Silverbird Galleria in Lagos, Light House Cinemas offers the teeming public of Warri who have long been starved of authentic, safe and secured as well as a homily and civil relaxation spot where the family and others can visit for savoury offerings now have a place they can call their own.Among its numerous appointed facilities are five holes cinemas with plush and creatively done interiors, which on opening would be devoted to screening different films ranging from international and local hits. With this numbers of screening holes, it would be the single largest centre and perhaps the busiest in the state for a harvest of leisure and fun. Also located within the edifice are numbers of shops, offices and food courts of different sizes and makes. With most of the shops and offices almost sold out, Light House Cinemas, which hopefully should open for business in September, should be a bee hive of activities where people would not only catch fun, interact and extend their network of friends and business contacts, it would also be a full service centre and one'stop shop for all kinds of businesses.Speaking on the cinema project, the chief promoter, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi who is fast becoming an entrepreneurial of note, particularly in the tourism industry where his Woodridge Hotel Group is gaining visibility in Warri and Lagos with Abuja and Port Harcourt on stream, and now venturing into a mega cinema outlet, said the drive was the desire to revive the dying entertainment and leisure culture of the city.Delta State, he said, particularly Warri has become crime infested and ravaged with social and night life almost none'existence. To allow this to continue, he said is suicidal hence he is investing heavily in building hotels and cinemas across the state, which hopefully, should endear a new spirit of social engagement.Besides entertainment, he said he was concerned with the development of the state and creating employment outlets for the youths of the state. With the cinema project, he stated that the face of Warri in terms of infrastructural development would change and a huge number of the jobless would be taken off the streets and empowered while families would receive succour.
