Mobil begins clean-up of oil spill site in A/Ibom

AT least 40 youths of Akwa Ibom State have been temporary engaged, as Mobil Producing Nigeria begins the clean-up of the coastline contaminated by the recent oil spill reported in its host communities.According to the company, operator of the Qua Iboe oil fields, although it was still conducting tests on the oil samples to determine the source of the spill, it had accepted to clean up the shoreline.In a statement signed by Mr Nigel Cookey-Gam, Manager, Communications and Government Affairs, 'the source of the hydrocarbon remains unknown, even as fingerprinting of collected samples is ongoing.'Meanwhile, residents of Esit Eket Local Government Area of the state have tasked the council to ensure the company takes responsibility for losses caused by the spill.
