FG to release White Paper on Oronsaye committee report

THE Federal Government would soon release the White Paper on the Stephen Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government parastatals, commissions and agencies.Special Adviser to the President on Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Professor Sylvester Monye, who made this disclosure at a public forum in Lagos, on Tuesday, dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the government might have dumped the report as a result of intense pressure, stressing that there was no basis for that.He also clarified issues surrounding budget implementation, constituency projects and government reform process.According to him, there are procedures before the final recommendations are released, stating that the 10-member drafting committee, headed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Ado-ke, was working to complete its work.He assured that the White Paper would be fully implemented, noting that the government was firmly committed to its transformation agenda. On receiving the report in April, President Good-luck Jonathan had promised that the White Paper should be ready in two months, to facilitate implementation of the recommendations.The committee had recommended the abolition of 38 agencies, merger of 52 and the reversion of 14 to departments in the ministries from which they were carved out, while it advised that the government would save more than N862 billion between 2012 and 2015 if it carried out the proposal.
