Minister woos investors on FCT, area councils

Published by Tribune on Wed, 22 Aug 2012

The Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, has urged local and foreign investors to partner with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in the development of the Federal Capital City (FCC) and the six council areas. The minister also on Sunday felicitated with Muslims brothers and sisters for completing the Ramadan period and urged them to continuously pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria. She advised them to hold on to the lessons of the holy month, which included supplications sacrifice and brotherly love for one another. She assured that the present administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was fully committed to the transformation of the country and the economy. On the FCT, Akinjide reiterated the administration's commitment towards making Abuja a world class city and also one of the top 20 economies of the world. 'We remain committed to the development of not just Abuja city but also the satellite towns as a deliberate way of decongesting the city centre. The burden of FCT's development has been singularly borne by the government. We welcome local and foreign investors to take advantage of the photography exhibition and the Abuja carnival to invest in the FCT. 'We have, however, developed a framework to involve the private sector in Abuja's development through the Public-Private-partnership (PPP) arrangement. The private sector has to take advantage of the annual Abuja carnival to invest in the Federal Capital Territory,' she said. She noted that Abuja was fast becoming the choice event for national and international tourists through the annual carnival. She explained that the international photography exhibition of the Abuja carnival held last week at the Tiwani contemporary in London, was aimed at achieving enhanced national prestige, increased participation, improved sponsorship and improved packaging of the annual carnival. 'The carnival is being taken beyond the shores of Nigeria to stimulate the much needed national and international popularity and also to optimise the commercial opportunities such an event could offer. 'Besides staging the photography exhibition in London, we will also be holding similar Abuja carnival photography exhibition in Washington DC in the United States, Hong Kong and Shanghai in China, and Abuja, Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers and Kaduna in Nigeria,' she said.
