MTN Lagos Street Soccer: More actions as round of 64 kicks off

THE world is set for more actions and expectation as the MTN sponsored Lagos Street Soccer enters its defining stages. The draw for the round of 64 fixtures was held recently inside the Sport Bar of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. The draw which was anchored by Mr. Bolade Yusuf, a member of the Local Organizing Committee, saw the 64 teams placed in eight different venues across the State.The MTN Lagos Street Soccer is an initiative of both the Lagos State Sports Council and MTN, Nigeria leading telecommunication company. For both, it is a platform for social engagement and grassroots empowerment.The beneficiaries are Nigerian youths whose passion is soccer, and who previously had little or no privilege of expressing their natural talents. As it has done with youth focused events like MTN Project Fame and MTN Foundations, MTN aims to stimulate the passions for soccer in Nigeria to connect more with its subscribers.In attendance at the draws were Peter Rufai, former Nigerian national team safe hands; Mr. Deji Aladegbami, the executive secretary of MTN Lagos Street Soccer, Prince Kosoko Bashiru, Chairman Referee and Technical Committee; Mr. Femi Ojeremi representing Staco Insurance and many other dignitaries including representatives of the 64 teams who made it out of the registered 900 for both male and female categories. True to the theme of the competition, ''from the street, the big league'', MTN is lending its arms to lift the under-privilege. Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Deji Aladegbami, Executive Secretary of MTN Lagos Street Soccer, '' MTN performance so far can be rated 120%. They have surpassed all expectations in terms of supports and investment in our youths, the company will go on record as one that is genuinely committed to the development of mankind,'' he stated.
