Man Kills Wife Over Squabble

BRIEFSTRAGEDY occurred at the weekend in Enyiogugu Mbaise, Imo State, when a middle-aged man, Vitalis Okere, killed his wife. The deceased, The Guardian gathered, was the second wife of the murderer. Details of the murder could not be ascertained as at press time. An eyewitness said the assailant attempted to escape but was apprehended by the community's youths who handed him over to the police.The suspect is a father of three children whose first wife is died. The remains of the deceased was deposited at a morgue in the area. The police, meanwhile, have commenced investigation into the incident.According to a source, there had been a quarrel between the suspect and the murdered woman.New Oghara Monarch Seeks PeaceBy Gowon AkpodonorTHE newly crowned Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, HRM Noble Eshemitan, Orefe III, has expressed gratitude to the people for believing in him, and enjoined youths of the community not to allow themselves to be used by selfish persons. On hand to rejoice with the monarch was former Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG), Chief James Eruero, and London-based Prince Charles Abutoh (son of former king, Orefe II). Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Ovie Eshemitan said he is motivated by support from technocrats like Eruero. Abutoh, who is on a visit to Nigeria, was at the palace to pledge loyalty to the new king. Abutoh said he is happy with Orefe III for accepting to serve Oghara community as his father did.Ekiti Promotes 2,100 Council WorkersFrom Muyiwa Adeyemi, Ado EkitiTHE Ekiti State Government has cleared its backlog of promotion for over 2,100council workers and confirmed the appointment of 2,500 others it inherited from the previous administration. The Chairman of the State Local Government Service Commission, Aderemi Ajayi, who made this known at the weekend in Ado Ekiti, said the promotion and confirmation were for 2009 and 2010. Ajayi urged other local government workers due for the 2011 batch to prepare for and write an examination scheduled for October. He said the Fayemi-led administration in the state is worker-friendly and interested in ensuring that staff get what is due them. Ajayi explained that the aim of the examination is to ensure professional competence and improve performance in the state's workforce.
