Auto accident claims 11 in Zamfara 'As tanker explosion kills 4 in Niger

NO fewer than 11 people lost their lives in a motor accident in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, at the weekend. The people were all indigenes of Dutse, Jigawa State, and were on their way to Argungun, Kebbi State, to attend a weeding ceremony of a village head in the city.Reports from the area indicated that seven people died on the spot, four died later at the hospital, while four others were receiving medical attention at a specialist hospital, Dutse.Nigerian Tribune gathered that among the deceased were five village heads, three ward heads, chairman of okada riders' association and secretary of the traders' association.traditional rulers, while three were members of trade union.One of the survivors, Mallam Mohd Nakuku, said that the driver of the vehicles lost control of the 18-seater bus, before he summersaulted and landed in a bush.The corpses had been buried in Dutse, in accordance with the Islamic rites.In another development, four people were reported dead at the weekend, while three others sustained various degrees of injuries, following a fire outbreak from a petroleum tanker at Maje village, Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.Nigerian Tribune gathered that the tanker was engulfed in fire when it lost control, following an alleged brake failure, which led to the spillage of the petroleum product on the road.It was further gathered that the motor boy, identified as Ibrahim and three other persons, including a woman identified as Halima, died in the incident.Halima, it was gathered, died while trying to rescue her child who was trapped in a residence that was gutted by fire that emanated from the petroleum tanker.The Suleja unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Edwin Nwokike, confirmed the incident.
