NPL season ends today

AFTER eight months of hostilities, the curtain will fall on the 2011/12 Nigeria Premier League season with Week 36 (minus Ocean Boys' games matches to be played across various venues.Characterised by controversies the ultimate of which was Wednesday's expulsion of Ocean Boys of Brass which broke the rules of the game by missing four matches, the season will produce a new winner in Kano Pillars FC.The Pyramid City team will be crowned the champions later today in Ijebu-Ode, the outcome of their final game against Sunshine Stars FC of Akure not-withstanding.While the destination of the trophy has been settled, there would be serious battle at the rear where a couple of clubs faces the danger of being demoted to the lower division.The action taken against Ocean Boys deny both Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Rangers International of Enugu the chances of winning the league shield, yet they look good to hold onto their continental tickets.In today's matches, Sunshine Stars will host Kano Pillars, Rangers will entertain Sharks, Kaduna United will play host to Lobi Stars with Kwara United facing 3SC of Ibadan and Gombe United hosting Warri Wolves.Elsewhere, already relegated Rising Stars of Akure will be the guest of Dolphins, Heartland against Akwa United while Niger Tornadoes will take on Jigawa Golden Stars with Enyimba hosting Wikki Tourists.
