Ondo gov: PDP raises alarm over plan to disrupt campaign 'As LP asks police to investigate alleged rituals

Published by Tribune on Fri, 07 Sep 2012

AHEAD of the October 20 governorship election in Ondo State, the Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation has raised the alarm over the moves to disrupt the campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The organisation alleged that people suspected to be supporters of the Labour Party (LP) attempted to disrupt its activities in Idanre town.A statement by the special adviser, media and publicity, Kunle Adebayo, however, lauded the police and the people of Idanre over their response to the alleged attack.Reacting to the allegation, director of publicity, Mimiko Campaign Organisation, Mr Kolawole Olabisi, said the LP did not do that because the government had done well in the state.'Everybody knows that Idanre is a major stronghold of LP, all top politicians in Owo are LP members, so LP can never be intimidated or bothered by the campaign of any party in Idanre or elsewhere, because the work of LP government speaks for itself.'In another development, the LP, on Thursday, asked the state police command and other security agencies to investigate the alleged rituals said to have been perpetrated in Irun-Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state. The party also alleged blackmail in a report insinuating that it was involved in the incident where ritualists were said to have been caught on Tuesday while attempting to bury a live cow with the inscription of PDP and ACN written on it.The state publicity secretary of the LP, Mr Femi Okunjemiruwa, in a statement in Akure, insisted that the incident was staged to indict the party. The party assured members of the public that no amount of cheap blackmail, open assault, character assassination, propaganda and wild falsehood would derail the Mimiko-led administration from achieving its best for the state.
