THE Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), has announced plans to create one million jobs in the next five years through call centres development, business processing outsourcing (BPO) and various electronic payment platforms.The president of NCS, Sir Demola Aladekomo announced the intention of the Society at the weekend when he led the leadership of the group to the office of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) in Lagos.Aladekomo said it has become very imperative to look at ways of reducing the rise in youth unemployment in the country, stressing that the inability to get jobs had make them vulnerable to social vices which are inimical to the growth of the country.With over 17,000 members of NCS in three major interest groups including the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria; Information and Technology Association of Nigeria and Internet Service Providers Association of Nigeria, Aladekomo said, 'In view of the current events in the country, we have a major initiative to create one million jobs in the next five years. We are hoping to use Call centres, BPO and E-payment initiatives and technologies in relationship with governments towards generating these jobs.'Besides, the NCS president explained that the society was pioneering the establishment of incubation centres/knowledge parks where young and up-coming ICT professionals could go in order to sharpen their skills.He said the NCS was determined to promote local content development, technology innovation, youth empowerment and research development through strategic advocacy activities and events in order to create more jobs in the country.Aladekomo also announced plans to facilitate SME financing/funding for individual and corporate members, by creating an IT Venture Capital.The Society also used the NIBSS visit to announce that it was in full engagement with government in the use of IT to fight the current security challenges in the country, 'we are currently engaging government in Cybercrime laws, legislations and others.'Reiterating its commitment to the on-going government's cash-less economy initiative, Aladekomo said the cashless economy would bring about operational efficiency, reduce crime and corruption, adding that the public should be enlightened about the advantage through awareness and sensitisation workshops.He put the success of the initiative on clean and stable public power supply, reliable network services and availability of network connectivity infrastructures, saying they are pivotal to its success.According to him, there was need also the need to put in place reliable security solution, especially in the identification process, stressing that knowing the customer was also key to the success of the scheme.Responding, the Managing Director of NIBSS, Mr. Adebisi Shonubi said it was very important to check matters relating to fraud in the scheme and other banking transactions.He however, urged banks to brace up to the challenge, even as the financial institutions have started to give token identity to customers, send faster SMS to their customers on any debit or credit transactions on their network, among others.
