London 2012 Paralympics:Team Nigeria arrives Lagos today

GALLANT Team Nigeria athletes to the just-ended London 2012 Paralympic Games are due to arrive in Lagos today aboard Qatar Airways.A member of the technical crew of the team disclosed this yesterday while speaking with Tribunesports in London."Some members of the contingent have left this morning (Monday) for Qatar and those of us remaining will join them in Qatar to connect a flight straight to Lagos. We are scheduled to arrive in Lagos tomorrow (Tuesday). We are leaving London with fond memories of the Games and everybody is happy that we have not let the nation down," said the coach who spoke under anonymity. He further disclosed that Eucharia Njideka Iyiazi, who won Nigeria's last medal in the women's shot put-F57/58 last Saturday had equally received her bonus of $2,500 bonus from the National Sports Commission (NSC).Meanwhile, Nigeria placed 22nd out of 164 countries which took part at the Games having won six gold, five silver and two bronze medals and third in Africa.Tunisia emerged the best team on the continent having placed 14th at the Games with nine gold, five silver and five bronze medals, while South Africa follows with eight gold, 12 silver and nine bronze medals to place 18th on the final medals table.
