Trader, 33, Docked Over Alleged N1.6m Fraud

A trader, Chukwuma Odii, who allegedly failed to supply auto parts valued at N1.6million to one Ikechukwu Aliba, was on Wednesday charged before an Apapa Senior Magistrates Court, Lagos.Odii, 33, who resides in Festac Town, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.The Prosecutor, Insp. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 25, 2016 at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.He said that the accused took N1.6 million from the complainant for the supply of the parts.The accused refused to supply the complaint the parts as promised but instead converted the money to his personal use.Aliba said that when he did not get any feedback from the accused, he requested for a refund, but the accused could not pay the money because he had spent it.The complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested, he saidInedu said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes a 15-year jail term for offenders.The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.The Senior Magistrate, Mr M.A. Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of 200,000, with two sureties in like sum.Etti adjourned the case to July 8 for mention.
