Ibadan S/East LG sponsors 110 youths on skills acquisition

In fulfillment of his promise to empower the youths economically, the caretaker commitee chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo state, Alhaji Abass Bolaji Najimdeen has launched the skills acquisition training programme for no fewer than 110 youths in the council area. The ceremony which marked the presentation of the beneficiaries to their prospective trainers took place at the council secretariat, Mapo hill, and witnessed by a mammoth crowd of youths drawn from all the 12 wards comprising the local government area. The areas covered by the skills acquisition programme include fashion designing, barbing, computer training, shoe making and hair dressing, while duration for the programmes ranges from six (6) to four (4) months. Speaking at the occasion, the council's helmsman, Alhaji Najimdeen disclosed that the programme for the youth was now a reality as he had conceived the idea of positively impacting on the youth even before he was given the opportunity to serve. According to him, the issue of giving the youth the lifeline economically had been in the front burner all through his life, adding that the future of the society was !::lrgely dependent on the youth of today. Alhaji Najimdeen therefore cautioned the youth beneficiaries to take the programme seriously as a means to total emancipation from the clutches of poverty and economic deprivation. The chairman remarked that a Programme Monitoring Committee would be set up to monitor the conduct of both the trainees and trainers, saying that whoever was found wanting would be withdrawn from the programme. Meanwhile, the chairman promised the programme beneficiaries that working tools and equipment of their various vocations would have been secured before the completion of the training period. He also assured them that all encouragement would be given to patronize the products made by the trainees after the completion of the training, adding that they should learn to be innovative and creative in their respective fields of training. The chairman gave credit of the success of the programme to the governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the ACN Chieftain in the State, Alhaji Lamidi Onaolapo Adesina and all members of the caretaker committee in the local government for their unflinching support and encouragement.
