Renowned accountant, Pa Ighodalo, dies at 90

PATRIARCH of the Ighodalo family of Ewohinmi, Ishan, Edo State and the Odion of the clan, Chief Jeremiah Aghedo Ighodalo, is dead.Born on December 22, 1922, Pa Ighodalo died three months to his 90th birthday at 7.55 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012.Ighodalo was until his death, the Okhonme of Ewohinmi, a hereditary title, which he was conferred by the Onogie in appreciation of his selfless service to his community and consideration as 'a man with a broad mind from which he always served his people relentlessly.'A devoted Christian, Ighodalo was married to Nigeria's first female permanent secretary, Folayegbe Mosunmola Akintunde Ighodalo, who passed on in February 2005.An accountant by profession, Pa Ighodalo started his career with the United Africa Company (UAC) before moving to the Western Nigerian Development Corporation and thereafter to the Midwest Nigeria Development Corporation in Benin City upon the creation of the erstwhile Midwest Region (from the old Western Region). He later worked with the University of Ibadan, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) from where he retired from the civil service. He was chairman of the Governing Board of the then Bendel State Colleges of Education under the first executive governor of the state, the late Prof. Ambrose Alli.He is survived by children, including Amiehi Tolulope Ighodalo, Mr. Asuerime Akintunde Ighodalo, and Pastor Ituah Olajide Ighodalo. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the family.
