NOA Calls For End To Violence Against Children, Women

As the world celebrates Childrens Day, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to end violence against children and women.Mr Moses Aba, the Director of NOAs Abuja Directorate, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.Aba said children were special gifts and blessings from God, adding that parents as well as governments must do everything possible to ensure the protection of children from abuse.There is a high rate of child abuse being recorded globally and on a daily basis.It is disheartening to read or watch in various media the level at which humanity has degraded its own; Paedophiles are having a field day and many are getting away with such crimes.Governments all over the world, including Nigeria are signatories to various conventions and agreements on the protection of the child.Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child provides for the protection of the child in and out of the home, Aba said.The NOA boss said womens rights should also be protected because whatever affected a mother also affected her child.He called on well meaning Nigerians to unite in ending violence against women and children in the country.
