Armed robbers invade bank, kill 2 in Kwara

Armed robbers, numbering more than 10, attacked a branch of First Bank located in Share in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday leaving, two men of a vigilance group dead.Nigerian Tribune investigation gathered that the hoodlums, who operated in three vehicles and with sophisticated weapons, stormed the bank at about 10.30 a.m., just as unconfirmed sources said they carted away large sum of money.Eyewitness account revealed that the rural community was thrown into pandemonium throughout the two-hour period the attack lasted, adding that many people were seriously wounded as hoodlums shot sporadically.It was also gathered that some people in the area quickly informed police divisional station at Oke Oyi in the Ilorin East Local Government Area of the attack, just as the policemen at Oke Oyi promptly sprung into action with intent to prevent their escape.It was also gathered that there was an exchange of gunshots between the armed robbers and the policemen at Oke Oyi when the hoodlums tried to escape arrest.Speaking with journalists on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kwara State police command, Femi Fabode, confirmed the incident, as it was also gathered from an eyewitness that the DPO of Oke Oyi station was shot on the left arm during the crossfire.The spokesperson also said that police recovered two with a long arms allegedly abandoned by the hoodlums when they tried to escape.
