PDP re-admits Fayose 'Sets up committee on Ondo gov poll

Published by Tribune on Thu, 13 Sep 2012

THREE years after he left the party, former Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, was, on Wednesday, re-admitted into the Peoples Demo-cratic Party (PDP).The decision to re-admit him came at the 315th regular meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, held at its national headquarters in Abuja.Fayose had left the party under which he served as governor bet-ween 2003 and 2006 to campaign for the Action Congress (AC) in the Ekiti State governorship rerun in 2009, before emerging as the gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2011 election. He had returned to the party in September 2011, but the party failed to ratify the move. However, in re-admi-tting him on Wednesday, the PDP, in a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said its NWC ratified the decision with effect from Septem-ber 14, 2011.The NWC also appro-ved a waiver for Fayose in line with the provision of Article 8(a) and Article 17.2 (g) of the PDP Constitution with effect from September 14, 2011.'By this action, Fayose is cleared to enjoy all rights and privileges of a member of the PDP without let or hindrance,' the statement read. The NWC also appro-ved the constitution of a national campaign commi-ttee for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State. The 32-member commi-ttee had Vice-President Namadi Sambo as chair-man, while the national legal adviser of the party, Mr Victor Kwon, was appointed secretary. The committee, accor-ding to the statement, would be inaugurated by the national chairman, Alhaji (Dr) Bamanga Tukur, in due course.
