Board Begins Sensitisation To End Street Begging, Hawking In Abuja

The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), said it has commenced sensitisation in major areas in the FCT to end street begging and hawking.This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Samuel Musa, the Acting Head of Information in the board on Tuesday.The statement said the sensitisation was to re-enforce the ban on the acts.It said that areas that would be visited during the campaign included Banex Junction along Wuse, Area 1, Area 3 junction, Area 8 and Karama-Jiji village.The statement quoted the new acting Director of the board, Mrs Olanipekun Omolola, as saying that anyone caught violating the ban would face the penalty.The FCT has zero tolerance to hawking and street trading.Section 35, of the AEPB Act No.10 of 1997 prohibits hawking, so anybody arrested will be prosecuted in the mobile court.Residents are enjoined to work together with board to ensure that Abuja is clean, she said.According to her, AEPB will not relent on its efforts until the city is completely rid of all forms of environmental nuisance.
