Islamic cleric flays attitude of politicians in Kwara

Published by Tribune on Mon, 17 Sep 2012

Renowned Islamic Preacher in Ilorin, Kwara State, Sheikh AbdulRasaq Aduagba, has alleged political office holders in the state of selfishness and self-centeredness. 'Even when vacancies exist in the state civil service, the political appointees cornered such appointments for their family members only,' he said. The cleric, thus charged the politicians to impact positively on the lives of the electorate who gave them the mandate to rule the state.Speaking at a prayer organized to mark the 48th birthday of the wife of the immediate past governor, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, Sheikh Aduagba blamed the suffering of the masses in the state on the refusal of some of the political appointees to spread the dividends of democracy. The prayer session was at the instance of the incumbent first lady, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, who was supported by female public office holders and wives of political appointees in the state. The cleric also charged Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed to put in place necessary machineries to ensure that his aides, 'spend part of their entitlements on the people who voted them into power.'Describing Governor Ahmed as 'a patient, humble and listening leader,' the cleric said that his vision of leaving the state better than he met it could only be achieved if his aides turned a new leaf and attended to the needs of people of Kwara State.
