Police, anti-graft groups to fight corruption

THE Police Assistance Committee (PAC) and the National Anti-Corruption Volunteer Corps (NAVC) have joined forces to tackle corruption in Nigeria.The two groups met in Lagos over the weekend to share ideas on the ways they could work together with other security agencies to check the menace. The meeting took place at PAC's office in Lagos.PAC Director-General, Dr. Martins Oni, who addressed the meeting, said the self-cleansing moves initiated by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, would certainly enhance the performance of the Nigeria Police.He expressed delight that corruption in the police was being addressed by the IGP through the on-going reforms by the IGP, particularly the phasing out of police checkpoints in the country.Oni urged members of NAVC members led by their Lagos State Coordinator, Mr. Kunle Oladeinde, to intensify efforts in the task of exposing corrupt practices in Nigeria.He advised the anti-corruption group, a creation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), to ensure that unscrupulous and untrustworthy people were not appointed into public offices.
