INEC berates parties over false allegationsTHE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Tuesday, berated political parties in Ondo State over false alarms and allegations, preparatory to the next governorship election in the state.The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Akin Orebiyi, said this in Akure, during a meeting with stakeholders over the release of voter register for the election.He said contrary to the allegation by a political party that over 10,000 voters were transferred to the state, the commission only received and treated application for 55 people.The REC said only 30 applications for transfer of registration from outside the state were received, while 25 people applied to transfer their cards within the state.Orebiyi regretted that after the efforts made by the INEC to dispel the rumours, political parties were still going about spreading them.According to him, the commission wanted to improve on its past performance, adding that INEC was planning to make Ondo election a model.He said since the credibility of the voter register determines the credibility of the election, the commission had made efforts to ensure that the register was error free.Mimiko remains best candidate -GroupA political group in Ondo State, Mimiko Support Group (MSG), on Tuesday, said Governor Olusegun Mimiko is the best among the major candidates contesting the next governorship election.The group said Mimiko was well prepared for the leadership of the state.The coordinator of the group, Mr Seyi Adeniyi, in Akure, said the achievements recorded by Mimiko in the last three and a half years gave him the edge over other contestants, adding that his preparedness stood him out among his peers.According to him, the landmark achievements of Mimiko in the past three and a half years were unprecedented in the history of the state, while he charged lover of good things in the state to support continuity and ensure the governor was re-elected.Adeniyi said the MSG was formed to ensure that the legacies of Mimiko continued after leaving office, at the expiration of his eight-year tenure, while he commended Mimiko for treating all towns and communities in the state equally.He added that the greatest achievements of the government are peace and security, noting that the people of the state are solidly behind his candidature.I'll complete all abandoned projects - OkeTHE gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, has assured that he would complete all the projects initiated by the PDP-led administration in the state.He lamented that many of the projects had been abandoned by the Labour Party (LP) government in the state.Oke said this on Tuesday, at the palace of the Majuwa of Moribodo Kingdom, Oba Idepefo, when the PDP campaign team visited Ilutitun, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state, during the party's ward to ward campaign.Oke listed the projects to include Olokola Free Trade Zone (OFTZ), deep seaport, industrial park, sericulture and apiary farms, Adagbakuja town, Akure modern stadium, recticulation of Owena dam and many more.He said the projects, if implemented, would solve the problem of unemployment in the state, adding that it became necessary for government to complete them for the good of the people. The PDP gubernatorial candidate, who lamented the state of infrastructure in the state, said he would make sure all the laudable projects initiated before the exit of the PDP government were speedily completed within one year of his administration.'I will make sure that all the good works former Governor Olusegun Agagu started but had been abandoned were completed within a year and we would impact positively on the lives of the people of the rural areas,' he said.Speaking on the issue of the election, Oke urged voters in the state not to sell their voter cards to those he described as political hoodlums.ACN inaugurates another campaign outfitTHE governing council of Independent Campaign Network, a platform to complement the efforts of Akeredolu Compaign Organisation, ahead of the Ondo State governorship election, has been inaugurated.The senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Professor Ajayi Borrofice, was appointed as the chairman of the council.A statement by the director of media and publicity of the group, Bosun Oladimeji, on Tuesday, said listed other members of the council as Mr Dele Ogunsakin, Wale Akinterinwa, who is also the coordinating director of the group, Ifedayo Abegunde and Adewale Omojuwa.Also inaugurated as members were Olu Mekuleyi, director of logistics and research; Mrs Kemi Iyantan, head, directorate of finance and adminisration, while Femi Adekanbi was appointed to head directorate of security.Others were Ifedayo Abegunde, mobilisation; Mrs Mayi Alaka, women affairs and Nimbe Tawose, special adviser to the coordinating director.While inaugurating the team, Boroffice urged members to see the appointment as a call to service, noting that it was the collective responsibility of all members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to ensure victory for the party.The lawmaker said the group was meant to complement the efforts of the campaign organisa-tion, with a view to achieving a landslide victory in the election.
