I won't cry for my opponents 'Gov Aliyu 'Says security should be everyone's concern

Published by Tribune on Wed, 19 Sep 2012

PIQUED by the barrage of criticisms against his administration in Niger State, Governor Babangida Aliyu has told his opponents in the state that he would never cry because of their remarks. This is just as he condemned their alleged sponsors for fanning the embers of disunity in the state.Governor Aliyu spoke on the Hausa service of the Voice of America (VOA), monitored in Kaduna, on Tuesday, adding that his opponents were being misled into unnecessary criticisms at a time the state and Nigeria needed peace. The governor, who refused to disclose names, however, said the detractors had continued to vent their anger against him for no just cause. It will be recalled that a chieftain of the opposition party in the state had taken the state government to the cleaners, over allegation of embezzlement of public fund.Meanwhile, Governor Aliyu has said all hands must be on deck to arrest the current security challenges facing the country, insisting that security matters should be the concern of all.Aliyu said security matters should not be turned to zonal or sectional matters, as 'what concerns one should concern others.'The governor made the remarks in Minna, on Tuesday, when he received the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Abuja council, which was in the state to invite him to a colloquium to be held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) later in the year.Earlier, the council chairman, Mr Chuks Ehirim, had lamented that 12 years into democracy, the political class still needed to do more in the area of welfare and security of life and property.
