FG'll deliver Abuja pedestrian bridges in 6 months - Minister

THE Federal Government, on Tuesday, said it accorded importance to construction of six pedestrian bridges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and was determined to successfully deliver the project within the scheduled six months time frame.The World Bank had approved the provision of $10 million for the procurement of construction of four pedestrian bridges in phase one and two bridges and three traffic management measures in phase two, on some selected roads in Abuja.The six bridges, which inauguration was performed on Tuesday, were awarded by the Federal Government to Messrs Dutum Company, Rurak Steel Bridging Ltd and Enerco Nigeria Ltd, with a contract period of six months each.Speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, urged the contractors to pay attention to quality as well as the deadline set by government.He noted that the government would ensure that it provided all the necessary support to make the assignment a worthwhile venture.The minister commended the World Bank for what he described as commendable intervention in the project and urged it to continue to assist in the realisation of govern-ment's objectives in the road sector.Also speaking, the unit manager, Road Sector Development Team (RSDT), Mr Ishaq Mohammed, assured that the project would be implemented with strict adherence to specifications.
