Okada rider seeks dissolution of 16-year old marriage

An okada rider, Azeez Balogun, 35, has dragged his wife, Fausat 40, before an Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, seeking the dissolution of their 16-year old marriage, over alleged adulteryThe petitioner had accused Fausat to be troublesome.Balogun, who resides at Oke-Eletu, Ijede Road, Ikorodu, told the court that his wife had been misbehaving in the house lately.He also accused her to be receiving strange calls from different men, even at midnight, adding that she at times did not sleep at home.``My wife told me she was going to his brother's house and did not come back home until the following day.``Sometimes ago, we had a misunderstanding and I threw her basket of orange away but to my surprise the Chief of our community appeared and fined me N7, 500.``The Chief told me that throwing away oranges meant for sale is against their tradition in the community.``I can't continue with the marriage, she gives me problems every time, please separate us,'' ` Balogun appealed to the court.Fausat, who is a trader and a mother of four children, denied all the allegations, but confirmed that Balogun was truly fined by the community leader.``All what my husband said was not true; he has not caught me in any infidelity act.``He is suspecting me because he has not been responsible for our children's feeding and other allowances. He gives me N100 for feeding of our children.``I want this court to help me beg him, I still love him,'' she said.The Court's President, Alhaja Risikat Adesanya, advised the couple to wait for counselling and adjourned the case to Sept. 25, for possible reconciliation and judgment.
