Senate accuses BA, Virgin Atlantic of unethical conduct

THE Senate, on Wednesday, commenced the consideration of the report of its committee on aviation, which accused British Airways and Virgin Atlantic of unethical practices in their operations.The committee also recommended that Ministry of Aviation should be encouraged in the quest for a national carrier, suggesting that Arik, with 23 new generation aircraft, be considered for the status of a national flagbearer with attendant privileges, responsibilities and adaptations.These and others were part of the investigation into the violation of aviation laws by foreign airlines operating in the country, following allegations of air fare disparity against some of the airlines.Chairman of the committee, Senator Hope Uzodima, who presented the report, said 'British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, are only guilty of unethical conduct despicable anywhere, but show no iota of remorse.'Uzodima noted that the committee, during its investigations, demanded for financial information about the remittances of the airlines from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
