NACOMYO tasks FG, others on corruption

THE Federal Government and the citizens, especially Muslims, have been challenged to tackle corruption in order to guarantee national security.This admonition was given by participants at the 15th biennial conference of the Lagos State chapter of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) held in Ikorodu, Lagos State.Speaking on the theme of the conference 'Corruption: A threat to nation's security,' the National President of NACOMYO, Alhaji Kamalddin Akintunde, recommended provision of adequate employment, pursuit of people-driven programmes, dispensation of justice without fear or favour, good governance and campaign for restoration of positive values as solutions to the problem of corruption in the country.He also charged the government to ensure speedy and effective implementation of reports of various probe panels into corruption cases.One of the awardees, Professor Ishaq Lakin Akintola of the Lagos State University, implored Muslim organisation, to encourage piety and discourage corruption by desisting from giving awards to only the rich without caring for the source of their wealth. He also made a case for giving merit awards to those people who give important services to the mosques such as those who are always keeping the mosque clean.He also recommended revocation of the plot of land over which the wife of the President, Mrs Patience Jonathan, and the widow of former President Yar'Adua, Hajiya Turai Yar'Adua, are currently engaged in legal tussle, saying the land should be given to the captain of the Paralympics team which did Nigeria proud at the Paralympics Game in London.He also recommended that the $15 million Ibori bribe money should be shared among the athletes as a mark of recognition of their services to the nation.The conference also witnessed emergence of new set of executives to pilot affairs of the Council for the next two years.Members of the executive included Brother Abd Fatai Raji, State Co-ordinator; Mr Muheeb Abd Fatai, Deputy co-ordinator; Alhaji Abdul-Fatai Abdul Raheem; Assistant co-ordinator Admin; Brother Sulaimon Ogunbambi, Secretary General; Brother Abd Rahman Azeez, Assistant Secretary General; Abd Wasiu Moshood, Public Relations Officer; and Alhaji Tajudeen Abd Salam, Assistant Public Relations Officer.
