NSSF seeks NSC, NASS support

THE Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) has appealed to the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the National Assembly (NASS) to support its ideals to enable it carry out its statutory duties.NSSF President, Ibrahim Muhammad, recently met with the Minister of Sports/NSC Chairman, Bolaji Abdulahi, as well as the commission's Director-General, Patrick Ekeji, in Abuja to seek their support in the bid to develop school sports.Muhammad said of the school sports platform: 'We recently paid a courtesy visit to the NSC to solicit the minister's support in the area of school sports development, which is the strongest base for grassroots sports development.'We also challenged him to show genuine interest in the improvement and re-organisation of grassroots sports.'Our prayer is that the NSSF should see both the Ministry of Education and Sports work together harmoniously for the improvement of grassroots sports development in the area of equipment and retraining of discovered talented athletes.'At the National Assembly, the NSSF team met with the Chairman of House Committee on Sports, Geoffrey Gaiya, to solicit quality attention to school sports. He added: 'As Chairman, House Committee on Sports, we know he has the political powers to help safeguard the future of our talents in schools.'So we paid him a visit so that he can use his office to create the enabling environment for school sports to thrive.'He can do that in the area of political will by ensuring that facilities and sports equipment currently lacking in schools are available in basic and secondary schools as well as see that the Federal Government, states, Ministry of Sports and Education support the programmes of NSSF.
