Nasarawa gov's convoy in auto crash

THE convoy of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, on Sunday evening, involved in an auto crash in which his personal assistant, Mr Mohammed Zaki and two other persons were confirmed dead, leaving his son, Khalid, in a critical condition.The accident, which occurred on Nasarawa-Tooto highway, in Tooto Local Government Area of the state, around 5.00 p.m, involved a government Toyota Hilux with registration number NS 02 A09 and a truck with registration number KANO XE 384 NSR.Governor Al-makura was coming from the area, where he had gone to distribute relief materials to the over 12,000 people who were displaced by flood disaster.Eyewitnesses told the Nigerian Tribune that the accident claimed two out of four occupants of the Hilux vehicle, while the third victim died before he got to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi.'The casualties were one of the governor's personal assistants, who is also his nephew, Zaki; a driver from the Ministry of Works and one other government functionary, while his son, Khalid, was in a critical condition,' the eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune.Khalid was first rushed to the emergency ward at FMC, Keffi, but the Nigerian Tribune gathered that he was later transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, on Sunday evening.Meanwhile, Governor Al-Makura, who had earlier before the accident, distributed rice, beans, garri, palm-oil, detergent, blanket, salt, bathing soap, cream and other relief materials to the victims of the flood disaster, said he had constituted a committee saddled with the responsibility of moving round all the local government areas, to ascertain the level of havoc caused by the disaster, with a view to bringing succour to the affected residents.
