Lajomo ruling house declares support for Ataoja

Published by Tribune on Mon, 24 Sep 2012

THE two-year crisis rocking the stool of Ataoja of Osogbo may soon be finally put to rest as Adedunhan Lajomo Ruling House of Osogbo has disowned two families from its branch who are opposing the ascension to the throne of Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye, the Ataoja of Osogbo. The Adedunhan Lajomo Ruling House, in a statement jointly signed by the head of the ruling house, Pa Mustafa Oyekola and the secretary, Prince Nureni Olabiyi, said that the family was not in support of Aderohunmu and Olude families' opposition to the ascension to the throne of Ataoja by Oba Olanipekun from Larooye Ruling House. The ruling house, while reacting to a statement credited to Aderohunmu and Olude families claiming to speak on behalf of Adedunhan Lajomo Ruling House on the appointment of Oba Olanipekun, in a newspaper publication (not Nigerian Tribune) recently, said that it was wrong for the two families to speak on behalf of Lajomo ruling house because they are not members and had never participated in any affairs involving the family.Describing the publication as misleading, mischievous, inciting and illegal, the Adedunhan Lajomo Ruling Family said that the Aderohunmu and Olude families were not its members as they had not appeared with the ruling house in any commission of enquiry on the Ataoja of Osogbo stool.According to the ruling house, 'both Aderohunmu and Olude families were neither present nor represented in the Sotunde Commission of Enquiry in 1974; Justice Adenekan Ademola Commission in 1976; and Justice Bola Babalakin Commission of Inquiry in 1992 at Ikirun. It said 'when the report of Justice Adenekan Ademola was out in 1981, Sogbodile Ruling House challenged the report and when Aderohunmu and Olude families applied to join in the case, our lawyer asked them where they were all these while and they withdrew from the suit and never surfaced since then.'How can they now say they are part of Lajomo Ruling House since royal family is not a social club that anybody can decide to join at will' It queried. The family explained that it supported the enthronement of Oba Jimoh Olanipekun from Larooye Family as the Ataoja of Osogbo and participated actively in the recent Osun Osogbo international festival because the family was committed to justice, equity and fairness, adding that Adedunhan Lajomo ruling house does not have any grudge against Oba Jimoh Olanipekun since the mode of ascension to the throne of Ataoja as gazetted by Osun State government favours Larooye family.
