Published by Tribune on Mon, 24 Sep 2012

The Ekiti State AIDS Control Agency (EKSACA) has held its quarterly meeting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital with the Community Mobilisation Officer of the agency, Mr Remi Ajayi, charging various stakeholders in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the state to ensure attendance at meetings. The Ado Ekiti meeting was the third and a follow-up to the quarterly meeting of the State AIDS Control Agency (SACA)/line ministries, at Usi-Ekiti community in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state in June this year. The Community Mobilisation Officer of Ekiti SACA, Mr. Remi Ajayi, in an opening address on behalf of the Project Manager, Dr. Charles Doherty, said it was important that various stakeholders, including ministries, departments and agencies attend meetings and act on the decisions.Ajayi said the quarterly meeting was important, saying its outcome had impact on the overall productivity of the state workforce.Speaking on the objective of the Ado Ekiti meeting, he said it was 'to provide guidelines on the World Bank grants for HIV/AIDS Project Development (HPDP).'Ajayi added that the meeting would also 'share experiences and lessons learnt during the last quarter and also to give progress report and feedback on resolution/follow-up for last quarter review meeting.'He stressed the importance of attendance by the various ministries, departments and agencies as well as other relevant stakeholders, pointing out that it would help avoid the embarrassment of not knowing what to say or do when superiors or consultants came calling at the local government/community offices.Apart from the presentation of guidelines on World Bank HPDP grant for project implementation, the meeting also discussed evaluation and assessment of HIV implementation programme in all the line ministries in relation to budget. The Usi community meeting discussed key issues relating to line ministries architecture arrangement, roles and responsibilities and how to implement each ministry, department and agency's work plan for 2012 among others.
