NIREC to train youths on mutual co-existence

Published by Tribune on Mon, 24 Sep 2012

In its quest for peace in the country, Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), has concluded arrangements to hold a youth summit as a way to train the youth on mutual co-existence, religious harmony and inter-faith dialogue.A statement issued to mark the 52nd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria, signed by the National Coordinator of NIREC, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the body said the youth and women of faith would not only assemble to chart the way forward, but would also pray for the progress of the country. The NIREC, which said that non-availability of jobs and non-attendance to the decay in the nation's infrastructure had remained a clog, called on the government at all levels in the country to create more jobs for the youth and overhaul existing infrastructure across the country to add values to the socio-economic growth of the polity.'The government at all levels must do everything possible within their powers to impact positively on the lives of the people and ensure, as a matter of urgency, jobs creation, overhaul infrastructure and thereby make life more meaningful for millions of Nigerians."The government should connect with the people, listen to their grievances, build trust in them and solve their everyday problems which are factors that make us have government in the first instance', the statement said.It also said that government at all levels must stem the tide of violence in the country with a greater sense of responsibility, adding that everyone has a role to play in matters of security. While calling on Nigerians to discharge their responsibilities with absolute sincerity and commitment, NIREC called on people to be law-abiding, peaceful and patriotic and ensure they resist temptation of allowing parochial ambitions to override public good.
