Ikoyi Club 1938 kicks off anniversary with inter-section games

The Vice Chairman of the Ikoyi Club 1938, Tunde Akinleye, has revealed that the club is committed to marking its 74th anniversary in grand style, with several activities lined up to grace the event, including an inter-section games.The anniversary, which will kick off on September 24, he said, will have different sections competing among themselves in events such as golf, badminton, table tennis, swimming, snooker, squash, tennis and other games.The club held a draw to kick start the inter-section games on Wednesday, where the Golf Section was pitched against Other Games section, with Badminton taking on Table Tennis Section.The Squash Section will meet the Tennis Section, while the Snooker section will battle with the Swimming Pool section.Speaking on the activities lined up for the weeklong event, Akinleye said, 'it will be a non-stop week-long fun because we have celebrities that will thrill and encourage the competitors and at the same time entertain the audience that will grace the occasion.Similarly, the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, will also be delivering a lecture on the fourth day, followed by a cocktail.'Akinleye said part of the club's activities includes a visit to the Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home in Akoka, to continually render a helping hand to the needy.'The benefits of the decision to visit the home cannot be over emphasized owing to the rate at which the home is increasing in babies, children, and matured adults, who have for over 10 years been living a helpless and needy life,' he said.
