Published by Guardian on Tue, 25 Sep 2012

FCT, Abuja, others also on groundADAMAWA State's contingent was the first to arrive in Uyo yesterday for the fourth edition of Reachout Nigeria (RON) Table Tennis championship, which serves off today at the auditorium of Christ Embassy.Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Ayo Olufemi, told The Guardian that FCT, Abuja, and many other states have also arrived for the event. He said the church was excited about this year's event, which will feature countries like Benin Republic and Congo Brazzaville, 22 states and four clubs.'I must say that we are really excited about this year's event because it promises to be the biggest since the event debuted four years ago,' he said. 'Our aim is to promote table tennis by partnering people and organisations who are interested in the growth of the game.'While stating that it had been difficult getting sponsors, he commended the church's pastor, Emeka Nnabuko, and the other brethren who have contributed greatly to the development of the tourney.'We are happy that RON Table Tennis is the only national championship with international flavour and we will do all within our means to sustain it,' he said. 'The pastor is passionate about the event and we will ensure that it grows.'For this year's event, we sent letters to some sponsors, who hopefully will be part of it next year. We are not relenting. We will realise our dream of taking the game to an enviable height and discovering players that would do the country proud in the future.'He also called on participants to play within the purview of the rules guiding the sport, eschew violence and be good ambassadors of their countries, states and clubs.Meanwhile, the organisers have doubled the prize money from N1 million to N2 million to motivate the athletes to bring out their best. The event ends on Sunday.
