Oyo govt restates commitment to women development

THE Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Community Development, Mrs Atinuke Osunkoya, in Ibadan on Sunday, charged women to be agent of development, just as she said that the state government was passionate about employment generation and attached much value to women in nation building.The commissioner made the submission during a training programme organised for women as a way of empowerment and skills acquisition programme sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Labour and state Ministry of Women Affairs and CommunityDevelopment, in collaboration with Business and Public Service (WIMBZ), held at the Jogor Centre, Ibadan.She averred that the government embarked on the training programme to serve as a catalyst of human capital building and allowed women to contribute positively to the nation's economic growth and said that the programme will gear up women who have business ideas as the minimum qualification for participants was ordinary National Diploma (ND).Osunkoya, however, said that the training programme will allow women to identify with the four-point agenda of the Federal Government and have a wide range of business network which will lead to job creation.While saying that women were assuming greater responsibility globally, she urged them to avail themselves the opportunity by utilising the training acquired and said that her ministry had been targeting rural women for grassroots development.Also, Mrs Funmi Roberts, Principal Partner, Funmi Roberts & Co., also an executive member, WIMBIZ, said that the programme was aimed at assisting and empowering women in management profession, maximise individual potentials and creating opportunity for networking as well as building viable structure for development.She added that the training will develop innovative and sound business capacity among the participants and urged them to avail themselves of the opportunity of the programme.At the training programme, lectures were presented by experts in the business sector, including Mrs Bisi Fasuyi, whose lecture was entitled 'Business Plan Basics,' while Mrs Lolade Adesola, presented a peper on 'Other services of finance for women,' as well as 'business concept application.
