Harmonisation of Ekiti PDP executive dead

Published by Guardian on Wed, 26 Sep 2012

IT is an exercise in futility for members seeking the harmonisation of the executive in the Ekiti State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), its mainstream leaders have declared. The best thing for them to do, according to the to PDP's new Director-General, Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Aribisogan, is to work with the party's leadership to reconcile the factions. He told reporters in Ado Ekiti that the party was working assiduously in reconciling the warring factions and was not keen on any harmonisation of the executive.Aribisogan said: 'I don't think it is right to be pursuing harmonisation after election. So, it is high time our people stopped chasing shadows about this harmonisation of a thing.'But his position contradicts the declaration of the PDP National Vice Chairman (South West), Chief Segun Oni, who told The Guardian recently that 'genuine reconciliation is impossible without harmonisation in the region.'The PDP however accused the members of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) of defacing its posters in Ado Ekiti, the state capital. The party cited the defacing of the posters of the former Governor Ayodele Fayose in Ado Ekiti prior to a ceremony held in Afao Ekiti on Sunday to mark his reentry into PDP.PDP also accused the state-owned media of depriving it of the publicity of its activities. The opposition party further alleged that the management of the radio and television outfits had shut their doors against the PDP when they wanted to place advert or news items.Aribisogan accused the ruling ACN of effectively taking control of the media outfits. But the state ACN Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, who denied the allegation, said: 'We are not party to such acts. The PDP itself should look inward. ACN as you know, is a decent party.'Aribisogan insisted that the tactical blacklisting of the PDP activities on the state media had robbed the party of the opportunity of having adequate coverage of its activities. The PDP chieftain said the matter had been reported to the police in Ado Ekiti and called for unfettered and thorough investigation into the party's allegation.
