Ohanaeze Lagos Seeks Cultural Rebirth

APEX Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State chapter, has said that it would no longer tolerate the bastardisation of Igbo culture and tradition by those who are expected to take keen interest in preserving it.In a communiqu issued after a meeting of the joint General Assembly of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Igbo Speaking Communities, the Traditional Council of Ndi Eze (kings) and Title Holders, held during the week, the group particularly warned against indiscriminate crowning of people as Ndi Eze in Lagos and in the Diaspora.The communiqu, which was signed by the president and secretary of the attendees and read by the President of the chapter, Chief Oliver Akubueze, particularly singled out Eze Ndi Igbo, Lagos State, Eze Hyacinth Ohazuluike for blame in this regard.They alleged that Ohazuluike has consistently debased and bastardised the Igbo Kingdom institutions, the culture and tradition of Ndi Igbo to the extent that our neighbours and host community look upon our tradition and culture institution with mirth and derision.
